Takashi Murakami definitely is Japan’s most well known contemporary artist. His collaborations with brands range from Vans to Louis Vuitton and from Supreme to Visvim. Apart from that he works with fellow artists from time to time, with Pharrell, Kanye or Damien Hirst. Murakami is not a shy one when it comes to collaborations that’s for sure. I always wanted one of his trademark sunflower pillows but they’re just a little too pricey for my taste.

What fewer people know is that Takashi Murakami is also and avid art collector himself. He started early as a student with some prints and photographs and eventually went on to bigger more expensive pieces in relation to his growing success as an artist himself.

The Yokohama art museum is now hosting an exhibition from January 30th (Sat) – April 3rd (Sun), 2016 to showcase Murakami’s very own art collection which houses more than a thousand pieces.
